The first week back has turned out to be relatively relaxed. It's been great to be back in the old neighbourhood and to be able to negotiate around a city without a map or too much of a language barrier. It's more refreshing that I anticipated that it would be. It's been nice to get back to the old routine and to catch up with people here. I've spent a lot of time updating the photo site and if you go to check it out you'll be treated to a large portion of the photos that I took in Spain and in Prague. I got distracted with drawing, and will hopefully get those posted in the next few weeks.
I think that the hardest part about coming back was to remember where I was head-wise when I took off, and to remember what my last steps were in the studio. I was knocked all over the place when it comes to developing ideas while I was on the road, and I spent a large part of this week coming up with ways to apply these. After reminding myself that time and process are all a massive factor in making things work, getting back to work didn't seem like such a daunting task... until I ran into the math side of things, which brought me here.
I have a feeling that the next four months are going to fly and that I'll be experiencing the same feelings when I return to Canada in May where there will be moments of complete relief, excitement for the little things, and a bit of wide-eyed wonder all at once. The first four months of being here were all about adjustment, whereas the next will be about savouring things. I'm pretty sure that won't be hard. With the weather being as gorgeous as it has been (it was sunny and 15 degrees celsius in the shade today), enjoying Florence for what it has to offer won't be too much of a chore. I'll probably be back in my sandals before I know it.
